Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to install a commercial EV charger in the UK?
A 7–22kW AC workplace charger typically costs between £1,500 and £3,500 per unit installed. DC rapid chargers start from around £15,000 upward. The final cost depends on the number of charge points, cable routing, groundworks and any electrical supply upgrades required. ICEE-EV provides a free site survey and a fixed-price quote with no hidden charges.
What grants are available for business EV charger installation?
The Workplace Charging Scheme covers up to 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing charge points, with a grant of up to £500 per socket from April 2026. Businesses can claim for up to 40 sockets across all sites. The scheme closes on 31 March 2027. As an OZEV-authorised installer, ICEE-EV can submit grant claims on your behalf.
Do I need planning permission to install EV chargers at my business?
In most cases, no. Wall-mounted chargers and units within existing car parks typically fall under permitted development. Planning permission may be needed for larger installations or sites in conservation areas. Under Part S of the Building Regulations, new non-residential buildings with more than ten parking spaces must include EV charging provision.
What is the difference between AC and DC commercial EV chargers?
AC chargers deliver 7–22kW and suit locations where vehicles are parked for longer periods, such as workplaces and hotels. DC chargers deliver 50kW and above, charging vehicles much faster for high-turnover sites like retail parks and service stations. ICEE-EV installs both and can advise on the best option during a free site survey.
What regulations apply to commercial EV charger installations in the UK?
All installations must comply with BS 7671 (including Section 722 for EV equipment), the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021, and Part S of the Building Regulations for new-build projects. Public-facing chargers must also meet the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023. ICEE-EV is NICEIC-accredited and OZEV-approved, ensuring full compliance on every installation.
How long does a commercial EV charger installation take?
Most commercial installations are completed in two to three days, depending on site complexity and the number of charge points. Our team handles all groundworks, cabling and testing. Larger multi-unit or car park installations may require additional time, which we’ll confirm at the survey stage.
Do you install EV chargers outside of England?
Yes. ICEE-EV installs commercial charge points across the whole of the United Kingdom, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
