Touchwood Car Park | EV Infrastructure Upgrade
Client:
Zest
Location:
Touchwood Shopping Centre, Solihull
Scope:
Electrical Infrastructure for EV Charging
Project Overview
ICEE-EV were commissioned the upgrade of electrical infrastructure at Touchwood Shopping Centre’s basement car park to support the installation of new EV chargers. The project involved complex cable routing and containment installation across multiple levels of the building.
Key Works Delivered
Sub-main Cable Installation:
A new 120mm² SWA sub-main cable was installed, running approximately 135 metres from the main LV intake room located on the roof of the shopping centre. The cable was routed along existing traywork and through three risers down to the basement car park.
Distribution Board Setup:
The cable was terminated into a newly installed distribution board (DB) in the basement, forming the central point for EV charger connections.
Containment & Charger Cabling:
From the DB, an additional 135 metres of new containment was installed throughout the car park. Each EV charger was individually cabled and terminated, ensuring full operational readiness.
Challenges & Solutions
Multi-level Routing:
Navigating cable routes across multiple risers required careful planning and coordination with the building’s facilities team to avoid disruption.
Space Constraints:
Working within a live car park environment meant containment installation had to be phased and executed with minimal impact on public access and safety.
Outcome
The project was delivered efficiently, meeting Zest’s technical requirements and supporting their commitment to expanding EV infrastructure across the UK. The installation now enables reliable and scalable EV charging for visitors to Touchwood Shopping Centre.
